Lil Chief Records News

23.11.07
Hi all,
It's the Christmas season and we have presents to give and receive.
The first one we got this year was finding that Grant Smithies has named half of the albums we have released in his new book (which lists his favourite local albums of all time). To spread the Christmas cheer, we are running a special offer running through amplifier in Dec, which means that any person who places an order will also get a free sampler CD that features a track from each of Lil Chief Records previous releases (20 tracks in all!). We also have lots news about the Brunettes travels overseas and some upcoming shows/releases from the Ruby Suns and Voom, so here we go....
THE BRUNETTES
The UK and Europe have been treated to a run of shows by the Brunettes over the last few weeks and they still have another half-a-dozen to complete before they head back to the Southern hemisphere. For details, see: www.myspace.com/thebrunettes
The press have picked up on the group, with an 8-star review in NME and a long write-up in London's Time Out guide - these articles can be seen on the news page of our website:

Influential New York magazine, Bust, have also done an eight-page photo-shoot with Heather and Jonathan which will come out in their next issue. Celebrity photographer, Kevin Abosch (known for his portraits of Johnny Depp, Gwyneth Paltrow, Cameron Diaz, and his debut movie, Panda), has also taken photos of the group after becoming a fan of their work.
Back home, The Brunettes were honoured with the "Outstanding Achievement Award" at the B-net student radio awards. In the next few weeks, they will have a new video hitting the screens for their party song "B.A.B.Y" (a song that became a hit on student radio before we even chose to release it as a radio single!). They also have a show lined-up with everyone's favourite, Voom, and new-comers, the Conjurors (an indie super-group that features ex-members of the Ruby Suns, The Tokey Tones, The Cosbys, Teenwolf, the Whipping Cats, Dictaphone Blues and The Cosbys)...

THE RUBY SUNS
The new three-piece line-up of the group (Ryan, Amee, and new member
Imogen) play their first show at Cross St studios in Auckland on Friday (supported by Tim Guy). This show is both an art opening for Amee and launches their new EP, Lichen Ears. This six-track release is made up of a number of short tracks and experimental pieces that weren't completed in time for their full-length album (Sea Lion), which is lined up for release next year. The EP is available now through our online store. The details of the release show are:
Friday 23rd November
Cross St Studios, Auckland at 6pm with Tim Guy Only $5 at the door (!) and it's an all-ages event
VOOM
As mentioned above, Voom will also be playing the Brunettes return show at the King's Arms. They also have a track on the new Outrageous Fortune soundtrack (you may have noticed them mentioned on the ad) and this album also features a track by the Reduction Agents (Lawrence Arabia has a show in London with Jennifer Gentle, we are very excited for him!). We've already received Voom's contribution for the Lil Chief compilation that is coming out next year and its a humourous ode to Martin Phillipps from the Chills, so that's definitely something to watch out for!
Until next time, all the best from all the tribe,
The Chief
