Just wondering where Al's got to. Somebody told me deep in the South Island. It's a travesty that his three albums didn't amount to a major international breakthrough, it's some of the highest rotate and pure country music that's been at my house. The reason I could like to communicate with Al is to humbly propose that he is the best vocalist the Grateful Dead never quite had, and that it's not too late to apply for the position!

Hi Dern,

the last we've heard was that Al was living in Hokitika. Beyond that we're not totally sure what he's up to these days.

Cheers

Hi Dern, many thanx for your kind comments, I do live in beautiful Hokitika, on the fabulous west coast. I am still writing and intend recording and releasing a collection of new songs in the near future featuring my brothers The Coalrangers. If you hear that the "Dead" need a new vocalist give me a yell I'd be only too pleased to step into any void.

Just picked up 'Cold Hard Winter' at Real Groovy ... GREAT album, strong material, fine vocals and sympathetic backing. How about getting together for another one? And what's Glenn Campbell doing these days? ... such a fine pedal steel man. I remember being blown away when he was part of an opening act at an Albert King (I think or maybe Roy Buchanan) concert in the '90s, and again when he backed Dale Watson in an Auckland pub show.
